I think he left to go to America (yeah Australian band) and this is sort of a song to tell herself, 'I'm alright now, here comes September' which in Aus is spring so symbolic of a happier season? I'm not sure I just kidn of thought that up. It's certainly a sweet song like a sort of defencive song or 'don't cry anymore' song.
