There is someone in his life that he's lost (Girlfriend, lover, friend) and he can't get over it and he can't tell them how he feels about it. He's just trying to survive without telling them the truth but he wants them to hear this and feel the same way... The rest of it just is saying that he's pretending he doesn't have feelings or doesn't want them in his life and how he's dealing.
