my very first interpretation comment on songmeanings.com, so bear with me everyone. lol

"Do This For Me Now" is in my opinion one of the most poetically worded and structured songs i've ever heard in my life so far. I first came across my first interprtation as the whole song being another invitation or requestful like song from Tom DeLonge asking all of his former Blink-182 fans to come and join him along in his new musical adventure with AVA. But the more i thought about the lyrics i came to understand that it's actually telling a very powerful story about relationship problems. I'll put the lyrics up first and then my interpretation of each section of the song as it progresses.

"I'm frightened at night and the wind has a roar, it seeps the hall and from under the door, like the shit that was said I can't take it that well, I give and I give and I give and I give and I'm still, lost and hurt and bone thin from the love that's been starved..."

ok...in this first part i believe that Tom is explaining the haunting emotions that he's experiencing by knowing that his relationship is in a bad state and how it's just him and his thoughts about his relationship at night. "the shit" is probably all of the hateful comments and arguments that him and his girl had gotten into and how he's unable to take it in very well. He continues to show love for his girl and put trust in her that she'll help to make things right again but he still feels like he's not getting enough love or trust back from her.

"I know it got close but I'm sure it's too far from the point of suspense, that we know it should be, the end
of that part of our favorite movie where the guy grabs the girl and gives her his hand, she says take me away from this torturous land, cause the grave is set up with the hole that I dug, I gave and I gave and I gave and I gave you my trust, like the time that we kissed and you gave me a lie to add to the scene you
pretended to cry but I'm here and I'm cool the way that it is, just give me a chance and I'll try to forgive"

This next part I believe Tom explains how close and loving his relationship used to be like but he knows now that because of all the problems at the moment that his relationship will probably never be like that ever again, he's comparing how the relationship "should" be like by using a story of a movie part where a guy and a girl are embracing each other's love and how the only thing that they care about are each other and thier love for one another. Next, Tom is explaining how he continued to give his girl his trust that she was sincere with everything she did and said and he's using a memory of himself and his girl kissing each other and how he trusted her that she sincerly was hurting from all the arguing at the time but instead she gave him a lie and to make the whole act seem more sincere she pretended to cry. Even with all that, in the end Tom says that he's cool with everthing and he's willing to forgive her for everything in the past, personally i think this is because he is still very strongly in love with her(you might be saying duh right now but just wait...it all connects).

Chorus: "And I dont' know and I can't guess if it's
gonna be ok but now my last wish is that you do this with me kiss me here and hold my hand make me feel like i'm the only one I know you can won't you do it for me now?"

In the chorus I believe Tom is expressing how he does'nt know and can't even guess if the relationship will last or not but all he wants in case if it does end that his girl kisses him and holds his hand and makes him feel like he's the only one she cares about(think back to the movie part thingy) and finally how even though he knows how hard that might be for her he is still requesting that she do it for him...now he's where i'm kinda stumped, i wonder if he is asking her to do this for him just so they can simply remember what it was like to have that romantic feeling of each other like they used to have and how they've always wanted it...or if he's trying to get her to do it for him so he can help make her feel how much he truly cares for her so that way she can hopefully give second thought to working things out before taking off completely...i guess either one works...but i'm going with the first interpretation.

"I've really had it with the rain of the tears the predictable storm that has come every year and it sneaks in from shore with a bat in it's hand. I'm trying I'm trying I'm trying I'm trying I can't your a thief and a witch but I love you to death you steal my heart and curse under your breath but the one thing that I will most willingly prove that when you are gone I'll be fine without you."

In this second verse I believe Tom is expressing his frustration from all the predictable arguments that they fight about each year(predictable storm that has come every year) and about how he knows it shows up each year but how it can still be anytime and about anything and when it comes it hits him very hard. He's trying his hardest to keep everything together but it's really hard for him to continue to love her, especially when she pretends to love him and act like there's no arguments at all just so she can be close to someone whenever she get's lonely or what have you, basically becomes a thief of his heart and use him. Tom realizes this but he still loves her because of that feeling(movie part) that they used to have for each other. But at the same time he also realizes that his life could be alot more happier without her and says that when she is gone he'll be fine without her.

Back to the chorus, it links up with the second verse also.

"Now just hold on hold on to me. hold on hold on to me hold on hold on to me.........."

This I think is probably the most poetic part of the song because those two simple lines are repeated at the end over and over again symbolizing that Tom and his girl are actually holding each other and about that feeling of love and compassion that two people express for each other makes them think about nothing else around them except for their love and the moment that they're in. Tom is using the idea of how two people embracing their love and compassion for someone else can take you to a higher level of emotionality and in this part of the song Tom is also using the idea of the endless hopefullness of outer space together as one idea. So...Tom and his girl are holding each other and then start to feel higher and higher emotionally...until the music bursts and the orchestra comes in and it starts to sound all spacy and big and inspirational...that part i believe is suppose to be the pinpoint before the ending of the song where Tom and his girl have held each other to the point where they've reached the endless hopefullness of space and how it symbolizies the near end of thier relationship but how it will end romantically as it had begun romantically and how they have both had alot of wieght pulled off thier shoulders and they will begin a new chapter of their lives...the adventure is the next song on the album....one of the best things i love about this album is how you can interpret the lyrics of each song and if you think deep enough you can actually make the whole album connect song after song.

Now...i said earlier that maybe Tom is asking his girl to do this for him so he can try and convince her to think twice about sticking with him...you could have that interpretation about the last part of the lyrics and how when Tom and his girl reach the endless hopefullness of outer space then they both think twice about their relationship and then think to each other that maybe they can get through their problems and differences and still be together. But i dont' think that's what Tom was trying to make his girl do...i believe it was an idea of him and his girl reliving the memory and their lost love for each other and how it should've been before they went they own seperate ways.

So there you go...you guys decide...i dont' know...maybe i'm thinking too deep and i need to try to think a little more simplistic so i can come up with a more divine interpretation. Tell me what you guys think. It was fun opening up...thanks for reading all this. I hope you understood it all. lol

Peace, Love, Unity, and Musick!!!

Hey BassmanSnake, i like your thinking. I actually like to find meanings to lyrics too. And your interpretation is cool. And its ok to think deeply...
