He knows that what he had with his friend/girlfriend is over for good and he resents it. He resents the relationship and the break up. It would have been easy to just keep close to that person and suffer through the struggles but instead he walked away and now he wants a part of it back if not all of it but knows there is no way of that happening. So with "what's said and done" there is no going back but maybe there is a chance to move foward and form a new bond, a weaker bond. He is depressed and thinking about suicide over the subject. Very powerful and very meaningful, to me at least.
