Actually, according to Kieth (the singer/guitarist), the song is a parody of popular angsty songs and meant to be nonsensical. A record executive told him that the band's music would be better if it was more angsty (if you've heard their other early stuff you know it has it's own unique quility). So, in reaction, Kieth wrote this song.
Also, the line "I was having much more fun when i though were were alive" is incorrect. The last word isn't meant to be understood beyond the "ah-lah".
