I don't know about the meaning of the lyrics, but the sound of the song makes me think of a mad scientist trying desperately to create a friend (sortà la Frankenstein). And you think he's crazy 'n all, but at the end when it gets sweeter you realize... he's just lonely!
But that's just me. The lyrics (now that I actually look at them) do seem to hint at religion, worship, and sacrament. So much for the mad scientist. Poor guy.
