Actually refusing "Only You" was a smart move for Depeche Mode in hindsight. Dave did just fine singing "See You" as far as that preciousness
needed to make this song sound sensitive without it being too sickeningly sweet. I don't think Alison Moyet, as talented as she is, even wants to lose her musical "power" to capture the vulnerability of "See You". However, Alf sure made musical magic with that Hallmark card of a love song, "Only You". This earnest testament about unfailing devotion to one's life partner, I hear, some couples have danced to at their weddings. Sweet!
