it's autumn, and all the plans he's made have fallen through and he's gotten out of a relationship. i think he's talking to god and saying that he gets to do his work through him and that's the truth. the line "the north star seems so far from me" is suggesting that he has no direction but even in the midst of hardships, it is autmn, and even though it seems like everything is horrible right NOW. the leaves are falling off trees...it doesnt mean he won't live again. (leaves coming back for the spring) but...he surrenders all of his current situation to God and his love to help him through it.
