I agree with iheartpsychostick the song is pretty self explanatory, the lyrics are absolutely amazing, and personally I too can relate to it 100%. The song is obviously about relationships, being in one or dealing with the fact that you've basiclly been hurt so many times that you're terrified of feeling that way again, so in any other relationship that you may allow yourself be in, to mend the loneliness for a short while, you push that person further and further away and build a wall around yourself so there is no way of geting in to indeed protect yourself from pain that you may have felt in past relationships, or seen the aftermath of the people around you that have had falling relationships so you won't have to face that kind of predicament (if thats how you spell that lol). The song can also be about just geting out of a awful relationship, that you were once cold inside and you opened up to this person and trusted them to not hurt you like anyone in your past, but in the end the person still pushed them away to some point, and maybe the one who was geting pushed away couldn't take it anymore and they were pushed over the edge and couldn't pick themselfs back up to keep fighting for them any longer. And all in all, many people do believe and I too am a victim of this lol, that if you've been hurt once, than maybe you'll get hurt again. So what he did was base all of his past relationships or one relationship on the one he was in at that moment, the one he seemed to really care about. So in the end, the one who was or is selfish and cold made there own relationship fall to peices and they have no one to blame but themself, and by the lyrics, I guess in the end he realized that it was his fault.
