no you guys are all wrong. if you think about the meaning is very literal. Rise Against is a strong candidate for saving the world, and in the video Ready To Fall is strong evidence of that, so the person he is saying, "All because of you" i belive its the world. Mother Nature. If you listen to some other songs on the cd, you can tell they are derived from the fate of the world physically and politically. And it makes sense, "All because of you, I havent slept in so long", he's in obvious distress over the state of our world. and the second verse would also add to that "so i tell myself, i tell myself it;s wrong, theres a point we pass from which we cant return" obviously mankind has gone too far in the killing of the world and polluting what we have. we cant turn back now, all we have is a countdown to the end of the world.
awesome man.. but i think that the last part you wrote isn't necissarily talking about us waiting for the end of the world or something.. i think its about how many things people have done, and realizing that what they did was wrong.. and they will be stuck with those thoughts forever.. maybe being able to fix it.. but not be able to take it back

i agree, they definitely are advocates for saving the world and looking at it in that way, it's very easy to interpret the song as being about the environment. However, the beauty of RA's lyrics lie in the fact that they can be interpreted in various ways. I doubt there is really a "correct" answer, i guess it depends on the listener's interpretation. Personally, I'd agree with the idea that it was about a complicated relationship.

thats what i thought at first place too :) when he is talking about the flower and "returning it to the dirt" i think he means that its not to late to save the world if we just dont remove trees and think about how we can get our resources the most nature friendly way as possible. or something like that xD im not that good at explaining things in English xD

In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
perhaps the first two lines talk about the universe (the field) and the other uninhabitable planets (weeds) we were given (i found) the earth (a flower)

Bending there in my direction, -> it was here for us

I wrapped a hand around its stem,
I pulled until the roots gave in,
--> we started taking from it
I wrapped a hand around its stem,
I pulled until the roots gave in,
--> we started taking from it
the rest seems to be pretty straight forward
but i have to say i didnt really realize it as a song about the planet until you pointed it...

good work!
Iabsolutlyloveriseagainst, I think what the end part means is that if we cross the point of no return, then the world will end. so we need to stop ourselvces from crossing it

I figure I’ll provide an update since the song has been out for 16 years and this is the top comment. Tim (the lead singer) has mentioned in interviews he never intended for Rise against to be purely a political band. So they have just as many songs about love and life, and this one is very clearly intended to be a love song. Only the best written songs allow for such a wide range of interpretations

And the drowning part fits very well because one of the main sideeffects of glabal warming is rising sea levels. Thank you for clearing that up.
