I saw a video for this song a while back, where the Supertones were playing a high school football game. They were doing terribly, but at the end, they complete a hail mary and score a touchdown, and they're all cheering and celebrating. Then you see the scoreboard, and it says that the final score was something like 56 to 6, with the Supertones losing. So it was kind of funny.
As for a song meaing, I think you pretty much hit it on the head, there. Everyone has doubts about God. If they don't, then that's a problem, because there are so many things to cause doubt (wars, diseases, and like Mojo says, children without mothers, among other things). But the thing to have faith in is that God is still in control and it's all part of his divine plan. (It's like that movie Signs, how the kid had the asthma and the little girl was lazy and compulsive about water-- both of thise things ended up being very good, even though they seemed bad before.) The plan is so big and complicated that cannot be fully known by human minds. And beyond that, if it were, faith would be too easy to be worth much (not because religion wants to manipulate people, which is something I've heard before).
