I believe that '424' refers to the Tascam 424 analog recorder. It's a four track that you can mix on as well as bounce tracks back and forth, creating songs with many more than just 4 tracks. As you guys probably know, Vanderslice built his own all-analog recording studio "Tiny Telephone" (the only one on the left coast I think) in an attempt to recapture some of the warmth and fullness of non-digital recordings. Tascam had stopped making their first two models ("say goodbye to model two") and the TDK reference is referrring to a box of cassette tapes. The Duchamp reference is really messing with my head though because Nude Decending Staircase was modern for its time, while Vanerslice's recording techniques are quite the opposite of modern in these days and times. Perhaps his defense of the love for analog is weighed against Duchamp's defense of his work? Who knows, but I am sure that John rocks.
