First off, I must say this song is frickin amazing. That said, I think this song is pretty self explanatory: it's a boy that is completely and honestly in love with someone. Seems to me that it's sort of a high school romance and they just graduated and leaving for different places. The girl is going somewhere and the boy is going somewhere else. It also seems like the boy was an asshole a lot to this girl and that they had a bit of a tainted relationship with fighting and arguing. Now that the boy acknowledges that hes probably never going to see this girl again in his life he realizes how much she really means to him and how much he has always loved her. He seems to be one of those guys that doesn't really show his emotions very well and doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve. But now that they're leave each other for good he's finally telling this girl how important she's always been to him throughout all the fighting and shit they had been through. He's asking her to forgive him for all the stupid crap he's done to her....he wants to have a future with her.
