Actually I think this song is about how he wants to get away from what he does and he just needs/wants a friend to pour his heart out to. Here's how I think it goes:

So, this is what I think this song is about. It was much easier for me to state what this song means by how I did it. But, I could just as easily be wrong as I could be right. But after talking to TJ for awhile, you sorta come to slightly understand him and you begin to realise that not ALL of his songs are about a relationship he has been involved in.
