For starters, I think that there should be talking marks around the word girlfriend. That's the way I always imagined it. And then it puts it into a whole new light.
A girl, called "girlfriend", who would do anything for money? Hooker. All of their songs are about hookers and/or Mexico. Why should this be any different?
