From the get go, this song is about a twenty something, wondering when childhood stops, and adulthood begins. He's discontent with the fact that his life doesn't feel that much different from high school, it's still about things that are so very superficial.
He has no direction in life, he has no idea what's going on. But at least he's still going, and at least he still has his dreams and ambitions. There's still some sort of light at the end of that proverbial tunnel.
The next verse isn't necessarily about a lover, it may just be a friend. One whos' going through similiar difficulties, but handling it in different ways. Where as the singer is keeping to himself, and falling into himself, the one sung about in the second verse goes out and surrounds him or herself in distraction, be it drinking or drug abuse, or rampant tantric sex.
