Don't be so naive, Aaron doesn't sing from the heart. I don't know what to think of Staind anymore. I mean, a lot of his songs speak a lot of truths and injustices, but a lot of his songs look like they've been written by the record company themselves.
Staind's cover was by far the best of the day.
Unfortunately, Metallica was covered by Avril Lavigne, Snoop Dogg, Korn, Sum 41, and Limp Bizkit... don't even get me started about that... I'll just get mad...
James Hetfield's voice isn't exactly "emotional" in the way that Nothing Else Matters portrays. This would be why Aaron vocals might sound better than Hetfield's.
But...
There is no substitute for the original, especially when the band that released this song is so far superior to Staind.
Perhaps if Pantera or a band like it covered this song, then you might be able to say, "better than the original."
