This song lunches me out I can't hear the ending without feeling like the whole day has been surreal.
Maybe there is a surreal theme in the song that comes from the guilt like since he can't look at the relationship anymore since everything is changed now that doubt is revealed and released into his mind.
He thinks he should have talked about it more or done something different to help her out but doesn't think its his place ("it doesnt belong") for something, which would have to be personal, in her life; like her past or family; something that she may have warned him about but he brushed it off at the time and that's a big source of the guilt since he had a chance.
He is worried she is embarrased now that the truth is out and she might do something like break up with him soon and in her "confession" or whatever it is that tells the songwriter she is stressed out, she just gave him the reason for the breakup to gel in his mind and prepare him for the end since she is no longer devoting time to him
"The weight of the world was on your shoulders...
You were unhappy"
I dont think she's unhappy about him I think it's her life at the moment and she made a mistake by having him as a boyfriend when she needs to focus on other shit.
I know it's vauge lyrics but its obvious she's under pressure, he's guilty he didn't notice this pressure before it broke her, and there is doubt about the future.
