Darkest Days is a concept album made up of 4 acts, each portraying a different emotional phase one goes through after a break-up. The first act (Darkest Days, Everything I Touch I Break, How Can I Hold On, and Drugstore) is about the ways one messes up in a relationship. The second act (You Complete Me, Save Yourself, Haunting Me, Torn Apart, and Sometimes It Hurts) is about still wanting the person and being hopeful the relationship can be fixed. The third act (Drowning, Desperate Now, and Goodbye) is about hitting rock bottom after it's all over. The fourth act (When I'm Dead, The Thing I Hate, On Your Way Down, and Waking Up Beside You) is about emerging from darkness and sticking to what one believes in.
