Cover art for Dodge Dart lyrics by Kind of Like Spitting

"Kenna Conklin. I dated Kenna for three years and had a puppy-love kind of crush on her for a year before that. Anyway, she drove a Dodge Dart. Once, we actually blew-out two tires and ended up flipped in a ditch on the way to record You Secretly Want Me Dead. After we broke up, I’d look for her car everywhere. You couldn’t miss it. It was baby blue and had a huge Tilt sticker in the back window. Goddamnit, I would spot her in the weirdest places at the weirdest times. There are so many songs about Kenna. Almost all of Nothing Makes Sense Without It and You Secretly Want Me Dead. I can’t believe the songs I wrote about her. It’s weird to sing them now because I don’t feel very connected to that pain. I feel no resentment now, but I’m still the victim in all those songs. I never wanted to be the victim at the time, but I was sad and I didn’t get shit. And that’s why she left me. Because I was sad and I didn’t get shit. It’s so obvious as you pull the camera back. ”Dodge Dart,” “All Else Failed,” “Two Violins”… those are all songs about losing Kenna."
