I see this song through different eyes, I don't think he's in love with her.
I think, she is in love with him, and he's telling her that he just needs her company and nothing deeper.
He's just telling her not to misinterpret the little things he does...the picture, the phone calls...and mistake them for love.
Some people "can" have a relationship without being in love, and I think this song explains it beautifully.

@StuartJS I think your close but he literally toys with her cause he knows she’s in love (or at least believes she is) in love with him. I have first hand experience with this and what I found out is he is a con man. It’s a kind of confession of his inability to do anything but use people’s love to his advantage!
