I think this song is so beautiful; it does just that--makes me "feel so low".
I don't really necessarily believe it's about a girlfriend; although, a few songs on Lightbulb Sun have come out of Wilson's experience & throughout this "breakup" album, Stupid Dream.
I actually, with more attentive views, thought it was about a Family Member. That perhaps he left home & his life was ever changing.
I know that the moment you leave home, things DO change & you begin to think everyone you left there doesn't even know you anymore; it's all a void of emotion.
Then again, I also felt that Wilson could have made a point of this song being sort of sexual in a way; here's this guy in 1998, falling for a girl that didn't give him the time of day. The natural thing to do is attempt to keep trying with her.
You get this stalkerish feel, & not necessarily a bad one, but definitely a way of overcoming, as the person has in this song.
