This song is about God and how the human race thinks he abandonded us because we pray and they go unanswered. God promised the human race that when we die will go to heaven and our sins will be forgivin and blah blah blah.

What's the hook, the twist within this verbose mystery? I would gladly bet my life upon it. That the ghost you love, your ray of light Will fizzle out without hope. (hope) We're the empty set just floating through, wrapped in skin, Ever searching for what we were promised. Reaching for that golden ring we'd never let go, Who would ever let us put their filthy hands upon it?

This part of the song was the dead give away for me. Basically saying whats the catch to get into heaven the golden ring being the halos.

Close but no cigar. I'm whole heartedly convinced that this song is about the fall of Lucifer.
