I see him talking about armed rebellion: "Stand up and fight now."

"This is the day that they'll be known as my enemy" - no longer will he tolerate the injustice.

The black fire is collateral damage, and the violent change to the status quo that comes from something like an armed rebellion. Is that the same as overcoming fear to ask a girl out? I don't know. I see it as closer to standing up for yourself, and not just dying without fighting. After all - is that really fair?
