I think the first verse, the nararator is talking about the person he loved, saying that she has died, and that he misses her a lot. "I could make sure no dirt ever got on her name Cause looking at that stone wouldn't bring me so much pain"

Space City seems to me to be some sort of social gathering place in town that has some sort of space theme, and he's saying that that's the closest anyone is ever gonna get to the moon. I think he figures that would bring him closer to heaven, and therefor closer to the woman that he loves.

I think the line, "And somewhere beyond that big white light [the moon] is where my heart is gone," is saying that the person he loved was his heart, and now his heart is broken.

Also, I think the line, "And somewhere she's wondering what's taking me so long," is saying that he thinks his love is waiting for him in heaven. This line, with a few others, as well as DBT's recurring use of the theme of suicide, also makes me think that perhaps he is considering suicide in hopes to see her again.

I'm not exactly sure what the second verse is saying though. Anyone have any speculations?

I think the second verse might be talking about how he verbally abused his wife/girlfriend, and maybe it had some part in her death (suicide or just incidentally).

"But sometimes the words I used were as hard as my fist She had the strength of a man and the heart of a child I guess"

and i think hes trying to make himself feel a little better by telling himself that at least he didnt hit her

"My hands are as good to me as they've ever been And I ain't ashamed of anything my hands ever did"...
