this song, to me, is about a boy and a girl being in love, and how their love is like a drug, and how it consumes their world (or at least the writers world). he's shaking when he's with her...thats how strong his love for her is (or the love in their relationship). the love makes his world surreal, when the walls seem to jump out of place and fly like kites in outer space. "and we're running out of here, prepared to throw ourselves off somewhere" - they are prepared to do anything as long as they're together. their love is all that matters. "and my stomach, it feels like hummingbirds the size of bullets are caught inside" is another/new metaphor for being in love. which is beautifully used in this song. instead of using the old boring one with butterflies in my stomach, he uses hummingbirds which adds to the originality of the song. mat devine uses words in such beautiful ways...like instead of having the girl say that he is shaking, his skin is shaking. which is kind of an innocent comment...pure and youthful. another aspect of the lyrics that strengthens the theme of young love, is how he chooses to spell 'through' as thru. this is informal, and mostly used by teenagers/being, so again - youth. the different spellings in the lyrics has another meaning too...that one should look up/listen to the words of the song in order to get its meaning, and to understand all its beauty! thats all for me, thanks! :) and sorry for the long post.
