"A dead loss, no songs
No fun, just glum
Lying next to someone"
Remorse and disillusionment after sleeping with a stranger
"So don't mention the War "
humorous imperitive from Fawlty Towers, not sure why its relevant
"North, South, East where's best?": feeling of being lost
"And needle point aside": double meaning (compass point and hypodermic needle)
"What fools boredom breeds": sex leading to "goldfish", or kids
"Oh don't believe the hype
Expectancy will always spoil a party"
Despite all the hype saying that you can still have fun while pregnant, it puts a real damper on things.
Basically, its about sleeping around, getting pregnant, seeing your funloving young life disappearing out the window thanks to being a single mom, resorting to alchohol and drugs to cope. Kinda sad really.
Isn't particularly from Fawlty Towers, though it was used in that it is pretty common (though less so in recent years) in common parlance it's a sort of 'be careful you don't offend' - usually towards someone you don't know that well.

I suppose it works quite well as the girl in the song is waking up to a stranger and can't probably remember anything of who s/he is and and anything about them.

There is also a curious "outro" to this song.
