Just as an example of dark, so you can see, here is an excerpt from a series of 10ish poems that I wrote against the Iraq war, nuclear war, political corruptness, the Holocaust, George Bush, and the entire human race:
And despite the massive death toll
that continues unceasingly to grow
the Burning 43rd reminds us to stay the course
Digging the trenches ever so wide, and ever so deep
Sending the human race to its eternal sleep
Just so you know, the Burning 43rd is George Bush Jr. I compare him in other poems to the Burning Bush (a deceptive, misleading burning bush), and since he is the 43rd president of the country formerly known as the "United" States of America, he is the Burning 43rd.
Most of my poems are like this (though this excerpt is among my best so far), and far different from the above poem.
