Well... For one, these lyrics are kinda messed up... Oh well. I've never really understood this song. This is one of those songs that's baffled me for a long time.
There's two possibilities that I see... A)The singer is sick of life on earth when he compares to life in Heaven with Jesus, so he wants to kill himself to be there. But since Emery is a Christian band, I don't think this is the case.
B) The gun is a metaphor of taking your life into your own hands. Like, "I have a gun. I'm in control of my life now; I could kill myself if I wanted. I have to power to have complete control over my life." If this is the case, which seems the most probable to me, then the last part ("Put on your coat...") is saying that that mindset is all just an illusion, that it just ends in tragedy. I dunno. I could write a whole two pages on what this song might mean... But since I don't really know... Heh heh...
