Ian actually told in an interview that this was about his (now ex-)wife Lorraine and about his OCD. He says it was an ode to her for standing by his side throughout the difficult moments and for not giving up on him despite the demons in his head (the neurosis). Meanwhile they did devorce unfortunately, but at the time the song was written all was still going well obviously, and this song was intended a dedication to his wife back then. Some consider it a romantic song with an eerie undertone, but I don't spot any eerieness. It is one of my favourite songs ever though, and one of the songs that made me fall in a deep love with this band, a love that never faded and still burns heavily.
