If I listen to a song enough I start to imagine a story, so this is my interpretation of it.
I think this song is about a boy and a girl who loved each other, but the girl had some emotional problems that she didn't want him to know about, preventing her from getting too close to him. As a result, the boy is confused and breaks up with her. On this day it would have been their one year anniversary and he realizes he never meant to let her go. If both of them had a chance to go back to that one moment where they were both in love, she would have told him everything, and he would have never let her go.
