I saw them perform this in Vegas, while I was heartbroken for the reasons mentioned above and I came close to crying.
"Wished I could be in your heart" - that's what he wanted but he is not in her heart. Q. Why would he wish that he were in her heart? A. Because she is in his heart.
"Wished I could be in your eyes" meaning he would still be with her now - but again he is not.
To love and have it not returned will make you want to cry.

A decent person who isn't in love would cut the relationship off. The woman I fell for knew I was in love, knew she wasn't and used me for something to do while she kept her eyes open for the next guy. This last paragraph is off-topic and is the meaning of the song of "She Waiting" by Eric Clapton.
