These lyrics may be taken for what they're worth but I think there is a stronger, underlying message - it sounds as if he's saying that his jealousy led to the destruction of a relationship. He's been throught a lot and realizes that he would be better off or happier with the person he left, considering that jealousy might have led to the end of the relationship. He feels as though he's amounted to very little in life after the relationship and wants to return to the time where life wasn't so vicarious and he took chances... but this time around he wants it to be more than just fun... he wants something real
