I agree...the first verse is Bowie talking to Death. When he was younger, he knew all about dying. Now, he knows that he knew nothing. I love how he asks death to steal him away without any warning. "Stab me in the dark, let me disappear."

One thing I didn't get until now was the "dead or alive" line. I think it is supposed to symbolize Death's relentless pursuit of Bowie.

forthelove, I agree "dead or alive" is that Death keeps calling for Bowie. I also agree with others that he himself is the Disco King. I might suggest it does not care if Bowie is dead or alive, so long as he is summoned to endure whatever pain and grief is in store.

My thinking is in all the verses Bowie is dialoguing with Death, but the chorus is Death's attitude toward Bowie. But where my theory falls apart is: (a) who is saying & what is meant by "Feed me no lies," and (b) to whom/what "I don't know...

"Feed me no lie" "I don't know about you" may refer the lack of trust between Bowie and Death. Bowie does not trust Death to take him peacefully. Death does not trust Bowie to go peacefully.
