=D I love this song.
I think this song kind of sounds like a guy who likes a girl but the girl is his best friend. and he is always her crutch when she needs help. the part about him being the referee I think refers to him as playing the "game of love" ..but he isnt playing he is just judging her boyfriends.
the chorus part with the surrender...
I think that means that when he became friends with the girl he surrenders his judgement because he doesnt want to say something bad about her boyfriend and make her angry?
And that he cant tell her how he feels because he doesnt want to ruin the friendship.
i think you're right, when he says " Talk over coffee for an hour or two
She wonders why I'm always in a good mood". i think its because hes always happy to see her

Very True...the same thing happened to me. He knows her well, he is one of her best friends, and he loves her but loves her enough to want her to be happy with whomever, The line "I think I found a flower in a field of weeds. Searching until my hands bleed. This flower don't belong to me" pretty much means that he has her but he can't call her his. But then he never does anything about it. "I never had the nerve to ask". It's that classic story of friends falling in love.
