Ok, I was just reading the lyrics of this song again and I have a theory. It could be totally wrong, so feel free to correct me, but when I thought of this the whole song seemed to make sense all of a sudden.
Its a story about losing unborn children mid-pregnancy. The author (is he married? maybe its written on behalf of someone else...anyway) and partner fall pregnant twice, and have lost both of them...but they were to be named Gary and Marcus. I think its more than one person that is lost, because of the 2 people in the title and because he says he sees "beautiful faces" not "a beautiful face". I think its a child because of "to plead before you for this child", and he refers to "your toothpick ribcage", I think indicating that the subject is very small.
The reason I think they are unborn is the last bit. Christians (myself included) often wonder about the eternal fate of children who die without ever being of the mental capacity to make a conscious choice for or against Jesus. It is believed, based on hints of scripture, that in this case the destiny of the child comes under the faith of the parents. The last line is saying about the grace he has received & knows abounding to those who are "so far away".

Anyway, that's my suggested possible meaning.
