I don't necessarily think he is saying that he messed up the relationship but he has made mistakes, who hasn't?
I think that even though there were arguments he still needs her and loves her. But since she's gone he's half the man he thought he'd be. He is still willing to give it another shot though - if she'll take what's left of him.
I kinda boycotted this song for a while because I had grown tired of Nick and Jessica. But after hearing how much he still loves her I decided to give it a try and i really like it a lot.
