Lyric discussion by cvcjr13

I think the meaning of the song is plain, but there are three lyrics that puzzle me. What does Deborah Harry mean by "Don't go pre-fab"? "Pre-fab" usually refers to a house or a novel that's pre-assembled, but I never heard it used of a person before. What does she mean by "a mad hatter's beret"? The Mad Hatter doesn't wear a beret; he wears an extra tall top hat with a large brim. And why is "cool" described as "Medicaid cool"? Medicaid is an entitlement for the retired and disabled. Everything else is clearly about a woman telling a man that it's over and she doesn't want any drama about it.
