The "don't go" part never struck me as him leaving permenantly. It could also be "don't go home", as in she's having so much fun with him that she doesn't want to be a apart. It just seems like too happy a song for her to be begging not to break up with her.
I like that it supports gay relationships without being preachy. Very much "love is fun and wonderful!" and it doesn't MATTER what the sexual orientation is.
