Of course, what it means to the artist and every person that hears it will be completely different. I completly see how it could be about Mr. Good's life (and most likely is), but the first time I heard it, I though of a drug addiction. It seemed like relationships were falling apart all around this guy in the song and he thought that he was holding it all together. "A last grasp at a life worth living... you can see right through me". He seems to be coming to grips with the fact that his life is falling apart and he's losing/has lost the most important person to him. "When I wake up you won't be here. Don't you think I don't know why. I've been asleep for years."
