Being in an album called Children of God dealing with misguided love and religious hypocrisy, this has the dual nature of being a slavish love song to a dead, abusive lover from a subservient and blindly obsessed widow(er), or the hymn of a religious fanatic to whatever god they praise (probably Christ), saying that the only true love is that of their deity, who they blindly follow to maniacal lengths.
