Oh, I forgot to expand on humans being the biggest threat to themselves... when the Earth's oil supply is used up, imagine what will happen. Almost all of the Earth's economies (and specifically the USA) are built upon a reliance on oil. Without oil to fuel the socioeconomic setups we have, society will collapse upon itself and create utter unruliness and total chaos.
This can be brought about by two things: countries vying with each other for control of 'high-oil' territories leading to massive imperialistic efforts by countries such as (and most certainly exclusively) the USA, AND a middle- and lower-class uprising. With the mind of the world governments being focused solely on dealing with the energy crisis, the 'unworthy' will finally have their day of revolution. One can only imagine where that road will lead...
