I can't believe no one has commented on this song. It's probably my favourite Tom McRae song ever.
I don't really know the real meaning of the song word for word. But the jist of it, to me anyway, is that he's remembering a girl from his past and it was so long ago that he only remembers her in bits and peices. She may have been bad for him (trainwreck beauty queen) but he still dreams of her and how much he loved her. And now he's writing this song for her because she's faithless and restless.
I also get undertones of parental abuse. (You raised me like a bruise/I'm bleeding still) So I'm not sure if he's been beaten as a child and this girl is abusive too, and it's like this cyclical pattern.
I think the line about (you're running out of things to make you feel alive) is about how she's so destructive, maybe she drinks/does drugs, and they used to make her feel alive but she's just a trainwreck waiting to happen now.
