The reason I love the song so much is because I think it is about a guy that is completely in love with a girl and she is totally clueless. Like she's a good friend or something. That's why he can't say "you're mine right now" because he knows she's not his. She is heartbroken from somebody else, that's why she is always trying so hard (sweating pound for pund) and she's being hurt constantly. He reminds him that she doesn't need to go through all of that and that she could just love him back and he'll do everything for her, just as he has been doing forever.
