I always thought this song was about Person A being in love with Person B, but Person B can't stay with Person A because person B has an obligation. Person A is consoling person B saying "its okay, I'll be here for you. We've been through hell together and I want whatever will make you happy" ...this is my wedding song so, i suppose this is my own applied meanning
