I'm studying the movie Blade Runner by Ridley Scott at the moment for English. In it there's one of the main quotes "All those moments will be lost in time, like Tears and Rain". Basically the guy who says it is a robot who has run out of time, and hes seen things that humans could never dream of and hes more humane than many of the people in LA 2019, where the movie is set. It deals with the questions of humanity, and how to be content when your time is up. The song reflects the identity crisis that this character goes through and with the confrontation with death, and that being a robot he has no choice of the afterlife, "How I wish I could choose between Heaven and Hell". Its not that hes having trouble choosing, its that he doesnt have the choice and he wishes he was more.. human. I think that the writer is questioning what it is to be human.. and why people do horrible things to one another..
