beams of light usually reflect off something and move into another direction. maybe it's saying how everything he thinks of reminds him of her... universe in his head is probably his mind.. and how erm...he can make himself seem not stupid in the "fantasies" that he has about her or he may just be regretting what he said to her and in his mind he can forget it?

i guess that could mean that he wasn't being himself, he let himself get so carried away by it all...he was "spaced" out thinking about her all this time and maybe he's suggesting they are on different planets and he can't reach her
