Cover art for Rosy And Grey lyrics by Lowest of the Low

Rosy and Grey bothered me, because Rosy means good, but Grey is bad, or at least not great. How can it be both?

I think that's the point. Things are good, but they're shit as well. Like in the first stanza, the protagonist is talking about having a great day by heading downtown and grabbing a beer. But we then find out the reason the protagonist can go downtown is because his unemployment check has come in, which means the person is unemployed, which sucks. So life is good, but it also sucks, so things are Rosy and Grey.

Funny thing. This song made me pick up Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. The books are just foul, with absolutely vulgar talk of womens private parts and stuff. It's a literary classic, but I couldn't read it. Anyways, it makes the song even funnier when you know what type of content the protagonist would be reading.

Love this song.
