My impression of the song was that it was about either friends or just people in general that had been trying to get the band to focus on getting more money instead of getting across their music. The first part talks about someone watching him and that person wondering if he even has a plan, (to get money as we later see). Next he promises that he is not making music to make money, but that he is being pressured to. "Well I ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes. That might be a surprise but it's true"
He doesn't think like the greedy people trying to make him sell out . Further in the song the person/company cannot understand why he doesn't want more money, only understanding their own greed. "I've seen your eyes as they fix on me
Full of confusion" The Artic Monkeys eventually realize that these people are no use to them and only want to exploit them for any profit they can squeeze out of them and then drop them for the next big thing.
