Probably my favorite Shiner song...I think it is basically the discovery of untrustworthiness in a relatively short relationship or friendship, thus ending it prematurely. The line “head down arms straight out” gives the vague inference of some martyrdom within the relationship/friendship and the “crown on your head” may relate to a crown of thorns. So maybe the other person in the relationship/friendship acted as if he/she was always the martyr in a situation or something along those lines. This could also be read a little bit more literally (and probably a little bit more realistically) as a commentary on Christianity and the uselessness of worshipping Christ. I get the impression they are commenting on how Christ was just a normal man but “a thimbulful of lies” caused him to be worshipped as the Son of God.
